Press Release: Keynsham Energy Meeting
Meeting: Keynsham Energy Meeting
Organised by: Transition Keynsham, Frack Free Somerset
Date: 23rd Oct 2012
Location: Royal British Legion,
8-10 Charlton Road
Time: 7.30 to 9.30p.m.
Purpose: This meeting has been convened as a response to the proposed planning application by UK Methane to drill a borehole to test for the viability of Coal Bed Methane production in Keynsham. This application could be the first of many to exploit the natural gas found in coal and rock formations underneath B&NES.
The meeting is open to all residents to hear about the application and potential environmental effects of the extraction of coal bed methane gas.The meeting will inform residents about the nature of Coal Bed Methane extraction and how it fits in with other forms of ‘unconventional’ gas extraction such as Hydraulic Fracturing (or Fracking)
The meeting is also to raise awareness and empower the community to make choices about alternative and viable forms of energy for Keynsham. There will also be a discussion about projects such as the installation of solar panels on public buildings in Keynsham and the option of hydro-electric power on the River Avon, as proposed by the Transition Keynsham energy group.
